YA for Obama

Since we have ALOT OF YA Authors here I figure I might as well share some information about The Book Transfusion!

It is time for me to open this up to everyone; sadly we have had authors be unresponsive to our requests (that had committed themselves to the project) and I have some authors that I need to re-contacted due to lack of communicated on my part! If you have heard about us before DATES have changed and we are accepting books for a larger window of time!! SO PLEASE re-read if you are interested and send me a message!

Our goal is to collect as many new books as possible and distribute them to local hospitals in lower east Michigan--to be received by teen patients. We are currently reaching out to local businesses, schools and authors from all over the world to take part. (In October 2008 we will release information on how community members can take part in the donation process!) We launched online communications May 16th, 2008—and the feedback is just overwhelming!

Once books start to pour in we hope to post photos—and keep everyone updated until the first batch of books are sent out in October November and the community collection starts! If you are interested in donating please read below.

A note from our founder Devyn Burton:
"Many people have asked me WHY do this project, what kind of difference can it make? I created Book Transfusion because I am the teen who is stuck in the hospital, awaiting a blood transfusion, dreading surgery, trying to avoid the painful shots. When I was twelve I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, a life threatening disease.

Being in the hospital so much I noticed a trend, teens in the hospital had two options A) color and do crafts meant for a six year old or option B) 'suck it up' like an adult watch TV all day. That is unacceptable, we need something to occupy our mind as well—and even if you did partake in options A & B you can only color and watch TV so much!!

A book is a wonderful tool for anyone in the hospital. You have to concentrate to see the characters of the story, as before you know it you are out of the hospital walking around Hogwarts, battling off "you know who" with Harry and his friends. You may have heard "books are magical" and it is true, even if it is for a short time. They help you get away, from the pain, the worry, the doctors, the blood—everything. That is why I choose to start this project, to help make someone escape from the confinement of the hospital, and be free!"

Authors:
If you are an author of an YA book—why not send a copy today! You will be added to all press materials and you get to give the gift of your creation to someone else! I (Devyn Burton) have been hospitalized many times in my battle with Lupus—Having a book at the hospital helps bring the reader into a new world away from all of the needle pokes and worrisome nights. If you are interested in taking part please contact Devyn by sending him an e-mail: devynwburton@yahoo.com.

Non-Local Businesses:
If you are NOT a local business to Lenawee County area we can still use your help with donations (books or cash) your organization will receive the same benefits as a Local Business -- if you are interested in taking part please contact our office at booktransfusion@yahoo.com.

PLEASE NOTE!: If you are interested in having your name, organization (business) or school involved in press packets and releases you must make contact with our office by SEPTEMBER 30TH 2008 -- And donation must be received not later then OCTOBER 10TH 2008!
