"We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics who will only grow louder and more dissonant in the weeks to come. We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope. But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope. For when we have faced down impossible odds; when we've been told that we're not ready, or that we shouldn't try, or that we can't, generations of Americans have responded with a simple creed that sums up the spirit of a people. Yes we can."- Barack Obama, speech following New Hampshire Primary January 8, 2008.

Results of our college's mock election.

I'm Editor of our college newspaper, and we formulated an ELECTION 2008 page of next month's newspaper, and published these results (collected from Student Government Association) along with FAQs about the candidates("Who Deserves Your Vote?"), my monthly editorial on "How to Throw a Kickass Election Party," polling locations for every area in our city, and a few choice political cartoons.

Though we have to remain impartial and unbiased (no participating in school rallies for any one candidate… Continue

Generation Why: The Year for Millennials

Since 1971, when eighteen became the legal voting age, the percentage of young voters has experienced a downward slide in the following election years, with the lowest turnout point being in the 1990’s. Politicians neglected the issues that directly affected the youth, did not concentrate their campaign efforts towards gaining support from them, and as a result, many young adults simply abstained from voting. In the past two elections, however, and especially the current one, the youth voting pa… Continue

Worth a thousand words and a dozen faiths.

My friend sent me this. I expect this picture to be published in the next Times photography anthology.

It says so much about the time we're living in, that I know we will look back on this period one day in both shame at what we were and pride in what we will have become since.

Voting early - more in depth.

When Andy messaged me (the brief conversation posted in my previous blog on early voting) I hadn't really had time to think about what my actions truly meant.

I knew I was going to vote early. I didn't much care for the idea of waiting hours outside of a polling place on November 4 (I have to mediate newspaper staff meetings on Tuesdays, and prefer to spend the rest of the afternoon in the office). But yesterday I had such a bad day that I was determined to turn it around.

I'm working part-ti… Continue

A Proposition for you.

More socially than politically, I am a bleeding heart liberal. I scan over the tax and insurance policies of each candidate, of course, but humans and their individual stories interest me more than statistics and numbers. I care more about progress and tolerance than the reports of fiscal years. This is why I support Barack Obama, because he references specific people and their specific stories in his speeches, bringing political buzzwords down to a very human level.

I feel impotent and helpl… Continue

voting doesn't matter. This is all part of a scheme to help people think they have a say when they actually don't. Gov't figured this out 100 years ago and these "politics" are actually a front. www.conspiracyarchive.com if u wanna find out the truth
