At 2 PM on Sunday they have an open event where people can come and talk to me without already registering for the con. I sign books, answer questions, whatever. Are you coming?

Actually, I'll be back Thanksgiving weekend for the DarkoverCon science fiction convention in Timonium (Tim and I have been regulars the last few years). If you don't want to spring for the whole con, they give me an afternoon session on Sunday (around 1 or 2) where anyone who wants to come and talk with me can without paying the con fee. Tim will put information up on my site, if he hasn't already.

I think you did a very cool thing for your brother! Was it as monsoon-y in Washington as it was in Baltimore?

No, just Saturday--I'm on in the afternoon, right after Bruce Coville. (Though, we're driving down together. An 8-hour drive, the greatest test of a friendship . . . ) \(^O^)/

Meet Maria

Maria D'Isidoro is a first time voter, eager to support Obama. Maria has been interested in and terrified by politics since the second grade, when she wrote to Bill Clinton(and got a reply!) about pharmacutical companies dumping waste in the stream that ran through her backyard, killing her friends, the crayfish. More than anything else, Maria wants to be a writer. But, failing that, she'd like to rule the world. Honestly, she's got about as much chance of getting it right as anyone else right now.

You can read Maria's rantings at Maria Meeps.

You can read her good friend and mentor, Aurora Delacroix, at Aurora Roaring.

President Obama and the Curious Case of the Nobel Peace Prize

There are moments in history which, upon remembering, you will be able to recall exactly where you were and what you were doing. The assassination of Kennedy, the collapse of the Berlin Wall, and 9/11 are all embedded into the American consciousness. Now, for me, listed among those life changing and world altering events, is the moment I heard the news that President Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize. I recall that morning perfectly. As I heard the news, a strawberry Pop-tart hovering inches b… Continue

A Right Denied

This is an article my best friend wrote for our college paper today and asked me to edit. I'll take it a step father and share it with all of you. by her own admission, she's mot a writer, prefering to draw cartoons and graphics for articles than put her ideas to words. So I'm a little proud of her that she did so well this time and that she, who normally falls into that 'apathetic teenager' category, has been so active and interested in politics as of late. It doesn't hurt that, while she's a r… Continue

The War Against Cancer

This morning, on my way to and from voting, NPR was talking about the War on Cancer. The topic is always prevalent, but it has some extra attention today asThe specialists they featured were talking about what cnacer is, how to fight, how much and how little they know about it, and the kind of lifestyle necessary to best prevent cancer.

I understand how important it is to find a cure for cancer. I've lost two grandparents to it, and my mother might have breast cancer; we don't know for sure yet… Continue

Perspective

Such wonderful things I get in my email. This is from an activist friend whom my mom recently persuaded to vote Obama. Can you tell they're happy with their decision?

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic,
different.'
Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

Name your kids Willow , Trig and Track, you're… Continue
