Me!
Hi!
I'm Meg
I'm 18, and psyched to be able to vote in this of all elections.
I'm a freshman at Smith College in Northampton, MA and I love it.
I'm a huge sci-fi/fantasy nerd- I love Dr Who, HP, Neil Gaiman, and much much more!
I'm obsessed with Wizard Rock. Seriously obsessed. It's the best thing ever.
I'm also very obsessed with other kinds of music, as well- I play flute and piccolo, I miss marching band like woah, and I collect flute-like instruments. I love bands such as Interpol and Tally Hall and Ok Go and Apollo Sunshine and lots more.
I'm doing a radio show filled with all sorts of geeky music- you can listen to it at www.smith.edu/wozq on Sundays from 12pm-1pm. (just click Listen!)
I'm addicted to youtube and the internet.
I'm Unitarian Universalist, and I love it.
I lovelovelove Massachusetts and everything about my state.
I love Noho a ton, but it's just not the same as Boston. I miss frappes and jimmies and tonic and bubblahs and pahking cahs in hahvahd yahd. I miss it all.
When I'm not swamped with schoolwork, I read a lot. But I tend to be swamped with schoolwork quite a lot. It's quite a shame.
My favorite shirts at the moment are my "Wizard Rock the Vote" shirt, my "Voldemort can't Stop Barack" shirt, and my "Smithies for Obama" shirt.
Which brings me around to the point- along with a small anecdote:
I remember being 14 and watching the 2004 DNC. It was in my hometown of Boston, and I remember all the spectacle of it and all the protesters and all the importance of it. I was so proud to be a part of it, if only by proximity. I was proud that the Democratic nominee was from Massachusetts, too. It was a great feeling.
I remember watching the DNC, and I remember watching some speech by some guy. He was young, and the TV said he was a brand new senator from Illinois. I didn't know anything about him, but his name sounded cool. When his speech was over, I remember being more hopeful for the election than I ever had been. I remember being more invested in the outcome than I had been twenty minutes before. I remember thinking about how cool that guy was.
Now that guy is anything but an unknown, and he's running for president. And I'm 18 years old, I've only officially been an adult for six months, and I'm so pleased that I get to vote for him. I'm so pleased that my first presidential election is such a life-changing, momentous occasion. This guy sparked my interest in politics four years ago, and now I get to repay him, just by filling in one little bubble.
change is coming.
can you feel it?
