TIME PERSON OF THE YEAR 2008

Hello everyone!

Barack Obama has been chosen as the TIME Person of the Year for 2008! To quote the website, "In one of the craziest elections in American history, he overcame a lack of experience, a funny name, two candidates who are political institutions and the racial divide to become the 44th President of the United States."

That's our man. Yes we did!

Chocolate (or Vegemite) and Love for All!

What would I do if I ran this site?

Hmm...

Well, first I'd invent a machine that passes CHOCOLATE (Vegemite for Justine, though) and LOVE through the internet.

But seriously? I think this website's purpose isn't over yet.

Sure, Obama has been elected president. (President Barack Obama. Doesn't that feel wonderful coming out of your mouth?) But that's only the first step in reforming our nation and taking care of the damage that has been inflicted upon it over the past eight years. Our countr… Continue

Freedom of Speech Does Not Apply in School

"Students, please remember that any poster you hang in the hallway must be approved by a sponsor beforehand."

That was one of the announcements at the beginning of second period at school this morning. I didn't think much of it when I heard it, but when I walked by the library after lunch, I understood. The YA for Obama poster from the video in my previous post had been taken down. Friends, I am quite upset about this. In fact, to say that I am angry would be an understatement. I'm furio… Continue

Thanks!
I joined, and have already been asked why I'm there and given virtual funny looks. Right now I'm trying to prove that I'm a mature person with an interest in politics, and not some punk trying to stir up trouble. Also trying to spread the "I'm A Democrat and You're A Republican, But We Can Still Be Pals!" message. Not working out so well so far, don't know how long I'll last.

You shouldn't get in trouble if you say it in a respectful way. It'd probably help to phrase it more as if you're trying to understand than trying to challenge the principal. But if it's out of your comfort zone, then it's probably not worth it.

Okay, you're probably right. At my school they they do have that rule (the poster has to have a stamp and a signature saying that it's approved, which has to show up on all the copies), which is why I mentioned it as a possibility.
I saw that you told Aino that you're going to give your principal that blog which is awesome.

Great! Even if it doesn't make any difference, you know you've tried your best.
