I stood in front of it a couple Christmases ago and imagined the people, who came here, across an endless ocean in a creaking ship, with their babies and their children and their elderly parents, knowing they would almost certainly never see home again. And I wondered for the 100th time this morning about why civics class was removed from the high school curriculum. Why would anyone want young citizens to NOT know how their goverment works?
