Hello and welcome to YA for Obama! The YA for Obama project is closed. We stopped accepting members and adding blog posts a few weeks after the election. Forums are now closed and the site is an archive. Feel free to look around, however! There's plenty to read!
Happy New Year! Continue

This morning, I was sitting there with my cup of tea, reading the news.
And the news, I have to say, was kind of fabulous. There were some incredibly enjoyable things on there, things that would have DESTROYED THE FABRIC OF MY MIND just three days ago. Like Bill O'Reilly, for instance, going on for FIVE ENTIRE MINUTES on Sarah Palin's incompetence. Like how she didn't know Africa is a continent, not a… Continue
To celebrate this historic day, I have ten copies of The American Journey of Barack Obama by the Editors of LIFE to give away, courtesy of the publisher.
To enter to get one, post a blog with your ideas about what you would do if YOU ran this site from now on. How can we transform it? Continue
David Levithan is the author of many YA books, including Boy Meets Boy, Wide Awake, and (along with Rachel Cohn) Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, the film of which is now playing.
I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning in America
It’s five in the morning, and I’m wide awake. At one in the morning, when I finally turned off the TV, I couldn’t go to sleep because I was too excited, too awed, too moved. It was an unbelievably warm ni… Continue
The function of this site is more or less done. It was designed to be a part of the general effort to make Barack Obama our next President.
And now he is.
Obama is all about building community, and that's really what happened here. A lot of people came together to help make this site work, and I just wanted to say some thanks.
Thanks to:
To Alan Lastukfa of Five Awesome Guys who did the graphics and helped with all things technica… Continue

How Did You Spend Your Summer?
Cast your mind back to this summer. Maybe you weren't following the campaign very carefully, but here's what was happening:
There was Obama, freshly nominated, his cash advantage looking mighty big. And yet all we saw on the airwaves were a bunch of McCain ads wi… Continue
I've been doing this YA for Obama thing since September 21st.... and now, on this last day of the campaign, I have a few thoughts.
Tomorrow, we Americans are hiring someone to do a job, namely, the job of president. In the event that Barack Obama does not get this job on November 4th, I would like to hereby offer him a job working for me. I cannot offer the same perks as the presidential gig (big white house, Secret Service dudes and dudettes, Air Force One, awesome podium). But still, it is hi… Continue

Today, we are joined by Amber Benson. Amber is many things . . . actress, writer, director. You may know her best as Tara from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Amber is a vocal supporter of Barack Obama and a friend of the site.
Amber is also featured in this, one of my favorite Obama videos:
Her post, Common Sense, is below. Continue
. . . is Erin, who is doing one of the best and most effective things we can do . . . talk to people. First she was talking to people at her bus stop, and now she's talked a family friend into voting for Obama. Using entries from this site, no less!
Erin wins a signed copy of The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray!
There are just about 48 hours lef… Continue
Libba Bray is the New York Times bestselling author of the Gemma Doyle trilogy.
What's Wrong with Being Smart?
Like some of my compatriots here, I grew up a Christian. My father was a Presbyterian minister, and he and my mother were supporters of the civil rights movement. They were weekend activists. “Community organizers” of a sort. My mother fought against Union Carbide when they polluted her beloved hills of West Virginia. We boycotted… Continue
I want to tell you guys what I did tonight, because it's really relevant to the Obama cause. Tonight, I am in Pennsylvania, in the town where I grew up, which is right outside of Philadelphia. It's a tiny place in a large metropolitan area. There's a resident here in our town who's a builder, and he's nice to everyone, helps everyone when they need it, and often doesn't send a bill.
A few weeks ago, he had an accident on the job--an extremely bad fall. He had only recently gotten some health in… Continue
Today we have TWO! (An hour or two late, I know. I apologize. I was rocking some Obama tonight and ventured away from my computer for a few hours.)
Today's winners are Devyn and Max. Both are frequent contributers to this site. You've probably seen their posts.
Devyn is an eighteen year-old aspiring YA author who's been canvasing and blogging for Obama.
Max is 14, and has been… Continue
Dr. Dan Mackey, an Atlanta resident, is a retired professor of dermatology at Emory University School of Medicine. This article originally appeared in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on October 10th, but he has given us permission to reprint it on YA for Obama.
I realize this is a bit different from some of our regular content, but today we have been discussing some of the facts, the math, and the science . . . and what Dr. Mackey has to say is quite interesting.
McCain wrong to hol… Continue
